Aspen, Colorado. A branded commercial for Peak Skis, the company founded by Bode Miller. We went up Aspen Mountain, onto the backside, grabbed a couple of 850 turbocharged snowmobiles, and rode over to Little Annie’s, where we shot.

Two subjects on the line. Bode Miller on a standard downhill run — I’d chase him on the chase profile that downhill skiing actually needs. And JT Holmes speed-flying — a parachute clipped over skis, dropping the mountain faster than a clean descent. Two different chase profiles. Two different rig setups. One operating window.

The job above the shot was the cold-ops job: drones in snow, keeping things dry, away from wind, comms across the mountain. Mountains definitely make it difficult. You can’t see your shot partner from one face to the next, the radio fades in and out behind ridgelines, the gear hates moisture, and the wind off Little Annie’s decides what airframe gets to fly that hour. Most of the work is the protocol around the work.

What lives on this page is the selected shots from that commercial — not solo authorship of the cut. The full edit was the client’s. We were a contributing aerial unit inside it, hired to deliver the chase footage that downhill skiing actually needs: in-line with the subject, in the snow, ready to move when Bode did.
